STAFF

I am delighted to be able to tell you that we have been able to appoint an Assistant Teacher for Year 3.  Her name is Miss Bike Bakare.  She is a graduate who wishes to become a full time teacher.  She will support Mrs. Coker to ensure that the children have the best possible adult input to maximize their learning opportunities.

We were very fortunate to be able to employ such a highly intelligent person so that on the odd occasion that Mrs. Coker has to leave the class to attend to her duties as Deputy Head she has a very capable person to carry out her instructions.

As Deputy Head Mrs. Coker does have to meet parents and discuss school policy.  She is also obviously very involved in the development of the school and will be working with me to build on the good practice already in the school and extend the teaching and learning throughout the school.  It is our intention that this will be to the detriment of her own class.

We have also appointed Mrs. Emmanuelle Ola-Kalejaiye to work with Miss O’Leary in Year 2.  She is also a graduate and is proving invaluable in that class.

MISSION STATEMENT

Please find attached a copy of the school Mission Statement which has been agreed with Directors.  I hope that this sets out clearly our beliefs and aspirations for the children and the school as a whole.

Our philosophy, especially with the younger children, or with larger classes is to employ well educated adults to work with the teaching staff.  We provide an excellent pupil – teacher ratio to give every child maximum learning opportunities.

MONTHLY REPORTS

At the end of each month, pupils in Years 1-6 will receive a brief report on their child’s weekly progress during the month.

These will be sent out on Tuesday 4th October.

These reports complement the full reports that you will receive at the half year and the end of the year.

WELCOME COCKTAIL

There will be a welcome cocktail for the Head Teacher and new staff at the end of September. The date will be communicated shortly.

NATIONAL COMMON ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS

For Year 6 children who will be taking the National Common Entrance Exams, or exams into Nigerian secondary schools, we will again be having extra classes after school on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. If you are interested in your child joining these classes, please see Mrs. Okungbowa for further information.

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

Independence Day (October 1st) falls on a Saturday this year.  We will have our usual celebrations on Friday, 30th September.  However, if Friday is declared a public holiday, we will celebrate on Thursday, 29th September. We will confirm the date in due course. As usual, children are asked to come to school in Nigerian national dress and to bring party food/drinks to share with their friends. As this will be a “Mufti Day”, all students should bring a small cash contribution towards charity.  School will close at 12 noon on this day.

CHRISTMAS

An early reminder that Christmas is approaching – those of you who were with us last year will remember that each child was asked to bring in a shoe-box sized gift box for a homeless child (labelled boy or girl, with age range). We will begin collecting these from mid-November this year. Any other contributions such as rice, oil, milk, beverages, etc, would also be greatly appreciated.

BIRTHDAYS

You re reminded that birthdays can be celebrated in school with a cake/snacks/drinks, which must be left with Mrs. Okungbowa, who will ensure that they are taken to the class at the appropriate time.  Please inform the class teacher beforehand so that she is aware of the celebration.

SCHOOL FEES

Please note that henceforth, school fees (cash or cheques) cannot be paid in school.  If you have not done so already, please collect a Zenith Bank teller.  After payment, the duplicate teller should be given to the Accountant so that he can issue you with a receipt.

The exchange rate (Pounds Sterling to Naira) that the bank is using presently, is N264 to £1.00. This is however subject to change due to market fluctuations.

CD PLAYERS

The school urgently needs 10 portable CD players for the classrooms.  If you have any, surplus to requirements, we would be happy to have them.

NEW SCHOOL TELEPHONE NUMBERS

We will be phasing out the two school phone lines, that have been in use up until now, over the next few months. The new school telephone numbers are 271 2923 and 271 2924

Please feel free to drop in to the office to see any of us if you have questions or concerns.  We will be glad to help.

Sincerely,

Paula Coker
Deputy Head Teacher
