Our Decision
By Omoehi Ighodalo

We want to make Nigeria a better place, even better than London. We want to help poor people so that they can be the same as us. We need good roads in Nigeria, we need dustbins beside the roads and we need signs to show people in Nigeria so they will not litter. This is why we best friends decided to do this publication. After this maybe we will be the most famous people in town.

We have beautiful stories for you. Tireni has written a lovely story on our country. We also have games and guess what? My friends will show you how to make some meals.

We want to tell other children to listen their parents, teachers and other people who are older than us. They should try to be neat at all times especially when they go to school. But we also want to talk to big people, especially when it comes to our country. Big people need to love one another and be friendly.

Before you read our stories, we want to introduce you to our team - Best Friends.

NIGERIA
By Tireni Ayotebi

Nigeria is a country in West Africa and it’s capital is Abuja. There are so many Nigerians living in Nigeria. My mummy told me that they are more than 100 million! We also have many tribes and languages like Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Edo and Itsekiri but many people speak English. The President is Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and the Vice President is Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. I am from Kwara State and the capital is Ilorin. The name of my governor is Dr. Bukola Saraki but I live in Lagos State. The governor of Lagos State is Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The Money we spend in Nigeria is called Naira, and my mummy also told me our country is rich with minerals like Iron ore and Coal.

In Nigeria it rains from April to September. This is called the wet season. From March to November it is dry. In the dry season there is harmattan and a lot of white dust that makes everything foggy and dusty. There are lots of interesting places in Lagos. Abuja the capital has beautiful mountains. In Lagos aand Abuja there are a lot of big abd beautifl houses with swimming pools. There are also some water parks, shopping malls, very nice eating places and cinemas. I like Nigeria.

Nigeria is a good place. President Obasanjo is a good president but there are still a lot of things I don’t like about Nigeria. A lot of the street lights do not work, the roads are rough, there are too many potholes. There are also a lot of hungry people who beg on the street and many of them are children who should be in school. The roads are also not safe at night because there may be robbers. There is a lot of rubbish on the dropped by people who sell things. I would like to see Nigeria with clean and smooth roads with street lights that work. I would like to see better schools for all children in Nigeria. This is the Nigeria I would love to see in the future.

Hello! My name is A’alia Boyo and I am seven years old and go to Lagos Preparatpry School. I come from Edo State. People tell me I am a tomboy. Maybe it’s because I like playing basketball and football. It’s great working together. Maybe some people will read what we have written.

My name is Omehi Ighodalo. I am eight years old and I go to Lagos Preparatory School. I read a book about how to make Nigeria a better place and after that I thought about what I could do. When I got to school my friends and I got together and we started to write about it. I hope Nigeria will be a better place. I do not only write, I like to swim too!

Hi, I am Tireni Atoyebi. I am eight years old and I go to Lagos Preparatory School. I thought that if we did a publication like this we can show it to our headmaster and he might read it in assembly or he might publish and sell it. I also like to go to church.

Hello! My name is Ayotola Odebiyi and I am eight years old. My favourite colours are purple and pink. The name of my school is Lagos Preparatory School. I am in year 3C, in Mrs. Coker’s class. My best friends are A’alia, Omehi, Dare, Tireni and Nicole. We all like to write so we decided to do this publication. We also like eating pizza, chicken and vegetables.

Our mummies say we should be responsible and they teach us how to cool. They say we should start with simple meals and learn the difficult ones as we get older. We’d like to share what we have learned with you too!

A’alia: Fry and Omelette
What you need
Eggs, Tomatoes, Onions, Salt, Frying pan, Whisk, Bowl

Crack open your eggs with a fork and put in the bowl
Cut the tomatoes and onions into little bits and put in the bowl
Use the whisk to stir the misture and add a little salt
Now, put a little oil in the frying pan and pour the mixture in. It doesn’t take time to cook. When it’s done you can eat with almost anything - plantain, fish fingers and sausages.

Tireni: I love boiled potatoes, and you can eat them with omelette too.
To boil potatoes you need a sharp knife to peel off their skins. After peeling leave them in water for a few minutes so thay they come out very clean. Then, pour hot water into a pot, add a little salt and wait for the potatoes to get soft. With A’alia’s omelette, you’ve got a lovely meal. It’s purr-fect!!!

Students Comments

The trip was fantastic because we learnt a lot about animals.

It was much better to study habitats in the wild rather than in the classroom. It was a little scary walking through the trees. We learnt a lot more..
