Admissions Policy
As an international preparatory school, we will admit children from the international community here in Lagos as well as children from all parts of Nigeria. Currently the school’s community is comprised of pupils of almost thirty nationalities
The school's motto is 'Non Sibi Sed Omnibus' 'not for one but for all' and therefore we accept application for admissions from all children. An application for the registration of a pupil must be made by the parents or caregiver/guardian of the pupil. Documents necessary for registration must include birth certificate of the child, international passport 'info page', an immunization card reports and transfer documents from the immediate previous school. Prospective pupils along with both their parents will be interviewed by the Headmaster and the Deputy Head Teacher (Business).
Once this has been carried out and in order to maintain an optimum level of academic functioning across the school, the prospective pupil will be expected to undertake activities and /or written tests over the course of a school day which must be successfully passed. The applicant will be observed to determine several social and personal character traits such as ability to settle, disposition, temperament and so on. Applicants will be expected to undertake a range of age appropriate activities-for the very youngest this may involve drawing a picture, answering questions orally, sorting activities and identification games. Older applicants will be expected to undertake formal written tests in numeracy, Science and literacy. These tests will be based on the work they have undertaken in the preceding term. The older applicants will also be required to undertake a further written test, the focus of which remains confidential to the school. Following the assessment visit, a meeting with both parents/caregivers of the hopeful applicants will again take place. This will provide parents and applicant with detailed feedback on the assessment time and activities. Parents will be advised accordingly by the Headmaster to accept the school's professional determination of the ability of the applicant to benefit, or not from the curriculum offered here and the high standards expected. No applicant can return for a further attempt to seek admission within a two school term period, should they be unsuccessful in gaining admission.
The school currently has maximum class size of twenty-four in all year groups with the exception being fifteen in pre-nursery. There are waiting lists in most year groups. Admission is offered therefore to the first available child on the waiting list who has undertaken and passed the selection process as mentioned above. Priority in accessing a place will be given to pupils who have siblings currently in the school. While the school has a very active and experienced special needs department and we therefore offer learning and language support to pupils with occasional or mild learning or behavioural needs, it cannot be expected to guarantee these facilities for those pupils with severe difficulties (even though they may have technically passed the admissions criteria).
Children are admitted into the Pre-Nursery at 18 months. They will have their second birthday in their class. They will then be transferred to Junior, the Senior Nursery and from there into the Reception then Primary School and Secondary. The school runs from 1st September to 31st August and children unless there are exceptional circumstances relating to ability levels, are always taught in the age appropriate groups. Because of the diverse nature of the school population we admit children at any time throughout the academic year.
There are currently almost 350 children on roll and this continues to rise. Several year groups are full and this will extend into the next academic year. Many children enter the school in the Pre-Nursery class during which they will have their second birthday. They then progress through Junior and Senior Nursery classes and on into Reception. The school has an unbreakable policy of never admitting children into classes where the children are an academic year older than the applicant. This applies even when children have birthdays at the beginning of September.
