Special Needs
Throughout their time in school the progress of individual children is closely monitored. A child may be identified as having specific needs in one or more areas. Special needs can be defined as a child who needs specific support because of learning difficulties, or a child who comes into the Gifted and Talented category and needs appropriate extension work. Once these children have been identified, individual Education plans will be drawn up in consultation with the parents.
A pupil may be identified as having difficulties in one or more areas. This may be short term and specific to a particular skill or area of knowledge; it may be an emotional problem; it may be a more general difficulty requiring a slower pace of learning or it may be linked to a physical or developmental problem.
These children may be aided in a variety of ways;
- By the class teacher modifying the programme of work for the child.
- Giving extra support from the Assistant Teacher.
- Finding materials, which are specifically designed to enhance a specific area of learning.
With Gifted and Talented children a programme may be devised which will extend and challenge the children educationally and intellectually. We support children who need to learn or develop their English language.
